Je souhaitais marier l’univers sonore d’un jazz plutôt acoustique avec quelques éléments synthétiques, alternant des expositions de thèmes et structures très « écrits » avec des passages d’improvisations assez libres.

Ecouter Watercolours

FROM HERE TO THERE
Skilful writing and orchestration

For this new album, I wanted to maintain continuity with the previous one, “Watercolours”, doing so with the formation : rhythmic, and woodwind and brass sections.

As for the composition, I wanted to alternate the strongly written parts with the more improvised and ethereal parts ; I felt like giving the music more space.

The purely acoustic tracks alternate with a few pieces where instruments blend with synthesizers used as a sonorous substance or mixture (practically nothing is really “played” on these instruments) ; here, once again, the contrast between the pieces of music came from deliberately blending the sonorous colours, the compositions bringing unity to the album as a whole. We recorded the rhythmic separately, which allowed me to go over the arrangements for the woodwind and brass sections right until the very end. Thanks to everyone’s talent, the whole album is very homogeneous. We finished off the recordings with Mino Cinelu’s magical percussions.

Here are the musicians who played on this album :
- Bertrand Lajudie : Piano, Keyboards, Composition
and Arrangements
- Bernard Paganotti : Double bass, Bass, Ebow Bass, Shamisen
- Antoine Paganotti : Drums
- Mino Cinélu : Percussions (2/3/6/8)

The jazz pianist, Bertrand Lajudie has already achieved an impressive career as a “studio musician” , but he has also realized, arranged and orchestrated many albums, written music for TV dramas and advertisements.

Even though he plays at the same time in a number of bands, for example the Paga Group, both albums under his name, “Watercolours” and his new album “From Here to There” highlight Bertrand Lajudie’s talent for writing and orchestration. There are obvious references to Soft Machine and Weather Report on Bertrand’s first album, however his second album is much more personal and equally more mature. The strongly written parts of “From Here to There”, where the brass and woodwind sections express themselves wholeheartedly, alternate with the more improvised, ethereal parts. The purely acoustic tracks alternate with compositions where instruments blend with synthesizers. These are deliberate contrasts giving a colourful, yet coherent result, with the compositions bringing unity to the album as a whole. : an album to be listened to, just as you would watch a film !
